INFORMATION FOR AUCTION PARTICIPANTS
All artworks included in the auction have undergone expert examination to verify their authenticity and technical condition. Any claims related to the artworks must be submitted to the organizer with appropriate supporting evidence within 3 months of the auction date.
AUCTION EXHIBITION
All auction items can be viewed in person at Haus Gallery during the pre-auction exhibition, which typically opens three weeks before the auction. Visitors are also welcome to consult with gallery staff for purchasing guidance and further information regarding the auction procedure. The full selection of artworks is also available for preview on our website: www.haus.ee.
AUCTION REGISTRATION
Participation in the auction is possible in person at the gallery, in real-time online, by telephone, or through written absentee bids. All participants must register in writing by filling out and signing the registration form and paying a registration fee of € 50. Registration forms are available at the gallery, on the Haus Gallery website, or via email upon request. The registration fee ensures secure participation by filtering casual interest and includes a printed auction catalogue. The completed and signed registration form should be submitted either in person or via email to haus@haus.ee. The form remains with the auction secretary and the information is used to verify the buyer's identity and facilitate post-auction settlement. All personal data is treated confidentially. After registration, the participant will receive a unique bidder number, which will serve as their identifier during the auction – whether participating in person, online, by phone, or in writing.
PARTICIPATING IN THE AUCTION ONLINE
To participate in the auction online in real time, participants must inform the gallery either in person, by phone, or by email. Upon registration, participants receive the registration form. Once the signed form is returned, a personal username and password will be sent no later than one day before the auction, along with clear instructions for logging in and placing bids in the online environment.
ABSENTEE AND TELEPHONE BIDDING
If a registered participant cannot attend the auction in person or online, they may place absentee bids or participate via telephone. Absentee bids can be made online or submitted in writing – either at the starting price or higher, at the bidder’s discretion. Written bids must be submitted to the gallery or sent by email no later than one day before the auction, clearly indicating the artwork(s) and the maximum bid amount(s). The gallery will represent the buyer up to the specified limits. If a written or absentee bid ends up being the highest offer, the artwork will be considered sold at that price and the buyer will be notified within three days of the auction. Final sale prices may be below the maximum bid amount, depending on competition. For telephone bidding, participants must indicate on the registration form which lots they wish to bid on. Prior to each selected artwork being offered, the gallery will call the participant, who will then place live bids via phone.
BIDDING PROCEDURE
Bidding follows the sequence listed in the printed catalogue. The auctioneer announces the starting bid and finalizes the sale with the third strike of the gavel. The auctioneer has full authority to resolve any issues related to bidding.
Bidding increments are as follows:
- Up to €1,000 – €50
- €1,000 to €3,000 – €100
- €3,000 to €5,000 – €200
- €5,000 to €10,000 – €300
- €10,000 to €30,000 – €500
- €30,000 to €50,000 – €1,000
- €50,000 to €70,000 – €3,000
- €70,000 to €100,000 – €4,000
- Over €100,000 – €5,000
Larger incremental bids are allowed if they are in full hundreds. Final bids are recorded by the auction secretaries.
PAYMENT FOR PURCHASED ARTWORKS
Payments for artworks may be made in cash, by bank transfer, or with a bank card. The buyer receives an invoice-agreement from the auction secretariat either immediately after the auction or on the following business day. Payment must be made within 5 days of the auction date. Artworks paid in cash or by card can be collected immediately after payment. If paying by bank transfer, the buyer must present proof of payment upon collection. The buyer pays the hammer price plus a 12% buyer’s premium.
BUYER’S PREMIUM
The buyer’s premium is a historically and internationally established fee charged by auction houses. It serves as compensation for the costs related to organizing, executing, and administrating the auction process. The buyer’s premium is 12% of the hammer price and applies even if the final price equals the starting bid.
