Lapland Landscape (Vaisaluokta). 1946

In 1946, Eduard Wiiralt made a trip to Lapland with the painter Eduard Ole. Wherever he travelled, Wiiralt was able to immerse himself in the local atmosphere and soul. While Wiiralt’s Berberi tüdruk kaameliga (Berber Girl with the Camel) conveys the hot Moroccan atmosphere, the harsh and freezing Nordic climate is visually present in Lapi maastik (Lapland Landscape). A serious-faced mother and child, and again an animal, the goat, portrayed as a subject (with self-respect), carry local ethnographic and life information.
