1938–2004

Concordia Klar (1938–2004) was a prominent Estonian printmaker and one of the most significant female artists of her generation. Her artistic legacy is firmly rooted in the canon of Estonian graphic art — her work is instantly recognizable for its poetic sensitivity and technical mastery. At the heart of Klar’s oeuvre lies the human figure, along with themes of longing and existential space. Working primarily with etching, drypoint, and aquatint, she created deeply personal yet universally resonant imagery — quiet, meditative, and introspective.

A graduate of the Estonian State Art Institute (now the Estonian Academy of Arts), Klar later became a respected educator at the same institution. She was highly regarded by colleagues, critics, and audiences alike, and her contribution was vital in strengthening the visibility and voice of female artists in the Estonian art scene.
