Bottom right: TOLTS 94.

Above all, Andres Tolts liked playing with composition, surfaces and signs. For him, landscape painting is no longer a thing in itself, but one of the visual signs that are in daily circulation in society. Therefore, it is a fragment of the visual world, and as such Tolts brings landscape painting to the surface of his work. In turn, it is surrounded by more abstract surfaces, with which Tolts sometimes imitated, for example, marble, but sometimes left it abstract, because for Tolts, painting was primarily a visual experience. He has said himself: "I enjoyed and still enjoy visuality, because for me, visuality is a source of information that other senses are not able to convey adequately. The word cannot be directly translated into sounds, sounds cannot be visualized and visuals cannot be formulated. This is what nature has given us these different sense organs for. If you find a vocation to work in the visual sphere, you will become an artist."
