The work by Allex Kütt represents the best traits of the national-romantic genre. On the sheet, being accomplished in the spirit of the 1950ies, with a realistically exact line, is created an idyllic picture of “a simple man”, who as a child works as a shepherd and earns his food with his own work. Also this work possesses romantic atmosphere, where are being exposed lovely children, domestic animals and their harmony with the surrounding nature. In such a manner Kütt actually plays a double game. He is seemingly fulfilling official expectations, but at the same time he is waving back to the same direction Olev Subbi in his creation did: back to the lost era, “the real Estonian time”.
