Arkadio Laigo had become famous by 1930ies as a talented graphical artist. Therefore several institutions started to take interest in his creation and in 1936 the Tartu Union of Estonian Farmers ordered from him two folders, one of which had to portrait on four sheets the Vahi School of Agriculture. So this sheet is actually one landmark of the ideological choices of Estonia in the 1930ies, where mainly was emphasized the crucial importance of farmers and peasants in the Estonian history and prevailing situation of that moment. “Vahi põllutöökooli kõrvalhooned” has been drawn with the most free hand of all of the four sheets and it offers the biggest quantity of creational freedom. In such a manner Laigo actually frees himself from a concrete motif and creates a portrait, on the basis of which it would have been possible to identify not only the Vahi School of Agriculture, but all strong, powerful and successful Estonian farms.
