Alfred Kongo worked quietly, almost imperceptibly, but during the last decades a number of more significant artists have confessed that they would not image the pre-war Estonian art without Kongo. His ethical backbone that was expressed both in private and artistic choices, was legendary. Also in “Lupiinid” Kongo continues to work while being inspired by the spirit of Pallas. The main emphasis is clearly on colour - how colours melt into each other, what enhances what, the activity of which to decrease, what to make the dominating one. These were the topical questions for the artist that he continuously tried to solve on his improvisational paintings. The format of “Lupiinid” proves that this time the asked questions were of especial importance.
