Andres Tolts

“Setter” belongs to the first legendary series of works by Tolts, where he used for painting original basic materials. The bed, onto one end of which was painted “Setter” and onto the other end of which was painted “Voodi” (“Bed”), the real classics. “Setter” paints us the picture of Tolts’ back yard and his dog, but instead of sentimentalism we detect here joy of living. Portrait of the bold dog tells us again about the private life of the artist and we need not try to read from here messages of saving of the mankind. But we certainly read from here such key-words as the end of the 1960ies, Tallinn, yard corners, Tolts, changes in art, foreign magazines and one English setter.
