Eduard Poland
1883 - 1957
Landscape With Pine Trees. 1931
Oil, canvas. 45 x 60 cm (framed)
One widely spread misunderstanding of the realistic art is the following: the artist is depicting things he is seeing. Still, the works by Eduard Poland are brilliant proof of the contrary – even though of the true-to-life form, it is in the first range a fantasy, artist’s imagination. Pine, in the nature so stunted, is here suddenly the symbol of survival, exciting cracking of the sky emphasizes even more the drama of the whole situation and – it should not be forgotten – offers considerably more possibilities for new forms and complicated colours.
