Sketches have always had a strange position in the creation of artists. They are often used for preliminary work, different composition solutions are covered, details are re-positioned. But it often also happens so that the artist impetuously drafts an enchanting object. Later, while having a new look at the work, it may be seen that exactly this impetuousness, spontaneity and sincerity are the values that can never be achieved in a painting which had been elaborated for weeks. Then the piece is proudly signed, for instance Juhan Nõmmik, and then quite a while is dedicated to the thought – to whom this landmark was actually erected?
