Even though at the first glance it seems that floral still-lives are all similar and differences can only be spotted in details, motifs and skills, then actually huge differences appear already in the manner of handling. We can find imposing and festive paintings, large-sized parade portraits of carnations and roses. Besides them exist intimate and sincere pieces, where the artist has not proceeded from the expectations of the general public, but from his/ her personal visions. The series by Lydia Mei-Starkopf clearly belongs to the second group. Leaving much white air next to these white portraits, she emphasizes the personal meaning of the depicted motif.
One just has to concentrate.
