Ants Murakin took up his first art-related job already at the age of 14. Having started in Tartu in a litography workshop, Murakin moved forward to the courses of theatrical decorations and drawing. During the time of the World War Murakin already wandered abroad, studying during the period of three years in Hungary and Austria. It is mentioned that it was in Budapest, when Murakin’s creation started to be influenced by post-impressionism, which followed the example of Konrad Mägi. In his later creation the artist concentrated in a more firm manner on landscape paintings.
“Vaade kiviselt rannalt” uses in forming Murakin’s favourite format. As a rule, the artist loved to move on quite a small area, increasing so the meaningfulness of the chosen motifs. In addition to everything, Murakin also toys with forms and textures, making the picture with thicker masses here and there more spacious. In case of the present work first of all must be kept in mind Murakin’s unconcealed enjoyment of colours, his quite rare bravery in the Estonian art at creating of sharp contrasts. Onto the head of the light blue of the sea has been pulled the dark blue of the sky, the whitish clouds are looked up by darkened rocks.
