Several artists (Natalie Mei, Edmond Arnold Blumenfeldt, also Johannes Greenberg, etc.) have been connected with theatre, but Roman Nyman's attachment to the designing of stage productions seems to be one of the most convincing ones. Besides acting as a theatrical artist and a lecturer Nyman was able to become a recognized painter.
In addition to the skill of staging of room the current work reflects also Nyman's brilliant sense of colours. The work, obviously originating from the 1930ies, mixes on itself shades from different parts of the palette, these slide slightly over the surface of the painting and turn even a dark boat, which has been pulled to the shore, from a melancholic boat into a nostalgic one. Instead of the conventionality of stage designing Nyman has brought into his work a completely ended story that could tell about life on a shore on a quiet evening. Of how the boat was pulled to the shore and the sun was gradually sunk into the water, how the foot-bridge quietly crumbled into pieces and there was nowhere to hurry anymore.
