Raivo Korstnik has remained a by-stander in the Estonian art history - a recognized and well-known artist, who preferred to active exhibiting working as a lecturer. After graduating from the ESAI in the year 1957 the most highly valued period of Korstnik's creation commenced in the 1960ies. Into this period also fits one of Korstnik's participations at the 1966 year youth exhibition that is considered to be one of the most outstanding exhibitions throughout times, concentrating on the exposition of new art.
Korstnik's by-stander's position is also reflected in his works. Following from one side the good old idyllic tradition of landscape painting, Korstnik implements also such painting technique that in places starts to approach the "restrained expressionism". The author has not been interested in the actual depiction of reality anymore, the landscape is not for him the aim, but a pretext, with the help of which can be explored the painting possibilities. At the same time the artist has not dived into extreme experimenting, but has stopped at the edge of the cliff to enjoy the view. This is exactly like in cinema - to see something familiar, but still different.
