Situated on the coast of North Estonia, Vainupea (Reindorff’s caption ‘Vainupää’, also called ‘Vainopea’ until the 1970s), with the fishing village of Karepa, has been a beloved summer holiday destination from the early 20th century to the present day. The painters Richard Uutma and Richard Sagrits come from this area, and the seaside is a recurring motif in their works. Günther Reindorff has drawn the stony beach and expansive views of neighbouring coasts, the horizon and the cloudless sky so characteristic of the area. As an artist who has designed banknotes, Reindorff also prefers to use precision drawing in his freelance work without remaining dryly documentary.
