An Estonian artist who probably emigrated to Canada, his portfolio of linocut prints was made far away from his homeland, with the aim of preserving good memories of the independence period for himself and the Estonian community. The well-portrayed landmarks, both rural and urban, the dramatic skies over Estonia, the borders and the flight from the bombs, all really tell the story of a nation’s collective memory, history, and experience. Heartfelt, lightly idealised and stylish works that no artist in Soviet Estonia could ever have created.
