The female character in folk costume is virtuosically portrayed in a light close-up. For Evald Okas, scarce means are enough to create a mood with simple, spontaneous drawing. When looking at the year, one would like to ask, is this a participant of the II Youth Song and Dance Festival? All positive initiatives at the time, where they might go against national policy, had to be properly justified by the organisers. This time the justification was linked to the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in 1967. https://sa.laulupidu.ee/ajalugu/ii-noorte-laulupidu/
Evald Okas’ Estonian girl looks somehow atypical ofEstonians; she could just as well belong to the international youth culture movement of the 1960s, which influenced artists in Tartu and Tallinn at the time. Perhaps the idea for the Youth Song and Dance Festival came from the international youth culture movement?
