Erich Pehap, who lived abroad, was able to indulge in picturesque experiments, including an optimistic treatment of everyday motifs. Such a light and elegant turn to seemingly banal motifs, which at the same time spoke of the workings of everyday society, was rather unusual in Soviet Estonian art. Pehap’s colour palette is also interesting: purple, violet, almost neon glowing hues form colour combinations that have a pop and spring feel. The rhythmisation of the composition into geometric shapes therefore does not come across as strict and contrived, but as airy and fluid.
