The basic art-related education of Agu Pihelga originates from the school of the Finnish Art Society. Strange, but despite its closeness, Finland was rarely for the local artists the target place of studies: preferred were St.Petersburg, Düsseldorf, Munich, Riga, if possible Paris. But these places would not have most probably suited the creation of Pihelga. One of the reasons could also be seen from the present work: Pihelga dealt through his creation only with these moods and motifs, which were close to his heart. We may guess that there lies the reason, why he did not want to leave for the major cities of Europe or Russia, as this would have hooked on him strange approaches and themes. But homeland offered Pihelga endless experiences. Making hay, scanty green colours of a hayfield, people at work, their light clothes – all of this was for Pihelga of much greater importance than for instance Montparnasse or the subway of Berlin.
