1902–1968
Gustav Raud (1902–1968) is one of those artists whose legacy can be measured in terms of its impact to culture as a whole. He was never an avant-garde artist, but his professional attitude, sensitivity to color and excellent spatial cognition attest that artists like Raud are the best at keeping up and building up a history of art. He also had the credentials: Raud studied in Pallas Art School during 1920s and 1930s, worked as a decorator and as a lecturer, was a member of many art organisations and worked freelance in his later life. He made art during his whole life, progressively moving towards what he considered to be the core values of painting. His favorite motifs were classical: simple objects from the everyday life that were raised to a higher status by the painter's artistic interpretation.
