Andrei Jegorov’s work is well known, in part because many motifs recur throughout his oeuvre. One of his most recognizable motifs is a sleigh rider on a snowy field, seen from behind and facing a house. In this instance, however, Jegorov has introduced a new nuance: he has rendered the scene with considerably more detail than usual and paid particular attention to the peculiar atmosphere created by the evening light. The evening’s pink-tinged clouds create a romantic mood, further emphasized by the wisp of smoke rising from the farmhouse chimney. This painting evokes the feeling of returning home and longing for a sense of security.
