New paintings by Liivia Leškin at Maakri Kvartal (Maakri 19/21, Tallinn) until March 2021. Maakri Kvartal is open Mon - Fri 7.30 - 18 and Sat through the on-site cafe.

Liivia Leškin is primarily known and recognized as a fashion designer. Born in 1956, she graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1980 as a fashion designer, has been a member of the Estonian Artists' Union since 1989, and a founding member of the art group ON Grupp. From 1987 to 1995, she was a lecturer and professor of fashion design at the Livonian Academy of Arts, as well as a visiting lecturer at several Scandinavian art universities. Leškin has appeared in numerous solo and group exhibitions as a fashion designer, costume designer, fashion illustrator, created large-format digital prints of interior textiles and more. Discipline and determination are a part of her known persona, but in the paintings a different way of expression and disposition emerges - ambitious, bold, searching and free in herself. According to the artist herself, the contribution of a professional team is absolutely necessary in creating fashion, but with painting she is alone, only depending on herself.

Liivia Leškin's paintings do not dictate the viewer to look in a certain direction, but invites discovery and interpretation. Her work is not the result of a logically guided process, but of emotional expression.

Haus Gallery and Haus Films have also produced a short film “Tegelik ja teine” (directed by Fernando Grancelli), which reflects on the artist's work and thoughts.
