In the 1930ies and 40ies Tartu was often been depicted in art. The students of “Pallas” rendered the romantic suburban and park – Tartu, the second half of the 40ies is looking more closely at the city that was shattered by war. Still the works depicting the latter are not very pessimistic. And also Agu Peerna’s work depicts quite a concrete spot, but resembles with its manner of handling and mood rather sheets with a dash of mysticism. Here we can detect topographic exactness (the house does exist even nowadays), but from another hand the rest of the city has been removed from the background. The artist has placed in an adroit manner into the core of the picture a white end wall that is focusing immediate attention. There is one human figure and it together with the mysterious house give a really adventurous and mystical feeling.
