Anatoli Treškin "Tallinna vaade"

Anatoli Treskin was a Russian artist, who worked during one period of his life also in Estonia. In addition to painting he was also a recognized restorer, for whom the artistic creation meant mental perfecting and dedication. Quite well-known are several of his portraits of ordinary people and ascetic views of the nature, which even more emphasize Treskin’s aspiration to reach higher beauty through the depiction of everyday objects. As a People’s Artist, laureate of several state decorations and orders, he graduated from VHUTEMAS – art institute that was located at the Academy of Art and Techniques. Before the war he mainly worked as a restorer, but already painted murals in workers’ clubs and cultural palaces. After the war Treskin started to paint more also in smaller formats. An example of this is the present work, which enchants with its aspiration to finally find the daily peace after all of the problematic years. People are walking and the quiet environment does not seem to refer to the horrors of the past years. By confirming the viewers of the possibility of peace, Treskin also confirms to himself the necessity of art.
